Design is about solving problems

As a UI/UX designer I have dedicated my career to helping companies exceed clients expectations. I focus on creating engaging interactions that delight customers. I have over 5 years of experience making responsive web sites, creating elegant visual solutions and other products in the digital space.

"Design, in its broadest sense, is the enabler of the digital era - it's a process that creates order out of chaos, that renders technology usable to business. Design means being good, not just looking good."

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This platform is a community engagement solution for Habitat for Humanity volunteers. As the lead designer on this project, I lead all creative meeting with the Habitat creative and development team. I gathered user requirements and user stories and iterated on a design that pulled the Habitat brand through the site and serve as a template for all future Habitat communities that will be rolled out over the next two years. A few of the main objectives are to enhance the volunteer experience both online and off-line and reduce IT involvement in supporting custom solutions by reducing the amount of manual effort needed for maintenance.  Some major pain point for the client included the over utilization of the IT team, the inability to manage programs successes and growth opportunities consistently, and too much time spent on communication management. The goal of the site is to bring all the information and members to one place. The success of the programs can be tracked and the communication can happen more naturally without staff involvement.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Trade a Grape is an app that allows users to trade wine and connect with other wine lovers. I was tasked with laying out a visually appealing site that lets users interact on smaller screen sizes and learn more about the services the app provides. The sites main intent is to bring traffic to the app and convert the traffic into download and active users. The goal is for the website to answer questions about the product and the service so that more informed visitors will be converted into app users.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

ScaleFactor utilizes a variety of digital accounting, finance, and inventory systems to increase efficiency and provide consistently accurate back office functionality.  Scale Factor is a SAAS product that gives small businesses a platform and provides guidance to their financial issues. The product needed to transmit trust and consistency yet appeal to a modern audience. The UI pattern is very concise, allowing the user to walk through each flow seamlessly, saving them precious time during routine tasks. The main objective of this project is to give clients a digital space to store files, communicate with financial professionals and track business finances. The goal was to alleviate and pain point that pertains to predominately small businesses who cant afford to have a full-time accountant. This product addresses a need for small businesses to become more indented with their accounting. It fills a gap in the market and provides a service to help small businesses and down market clients succeed while becoming more financially literate.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Talk with T is a website that will be used as a platform for T Ortiz, a survivor of domestic sex trafficking as a child and now a mentor and advocate for those struggling to end their own sexual exploitation. The site is meant to portray her personality and share her story with others in a visually engaging way. The main objective of the site is for her to secure more speaking events and sponsorships. The ability to easily navigate and clearly display pertinent information was a top priority. This platform solved her main problem, which was not having a consistent place to communicate and build relationships with her community. This was accomplished by integrating social media updates directly on the site and including and way for interested parties to request her to speak directly on the site.

KAT MENDENHALL BOOTS

Working on this project was extremely rewarding. I was able to touch every part of the project from research to project management. I structured a brand system and e-commerce website which are both versatile and strong in their aesthetic. The main objective was to approach the target market in a fresh way and give Kat a place to sell. Before building this site she sold her merchandise mainly at popups and conventions related to veganism. The problem with this way of selling for her was that she couldn’t make sells if she wasn’t present. This site gave her a way to work remotely and receive orders even while traveling or asleep. She was able to expand her product offerings due to a larger revenue stream that has come in since the launch of the site.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The aim of this project was to bring in new clients and establish a new voice for the company by adding personality and character to the brand. The identity and website were designed with the focus on differentiating Elm from other agencies. The unique personality is represented by the playful, modern style. Each element was chosen to tell a story with the goal of being able to reach visitors on the site, push them to connect with the brand, and convert them into paying customers. Transparency played a huge role in the project and prior to the rebrand/redesign there were not many elements that helped achieve that goal. I added a process page to show how the how the company operates and what you can expect as a client. After the new site was launched we saw a 28% increase in unique pages views and were contacted by 16% more potential clients.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This site is a personal project that was created out of a brain storming session. The goal of the project was to create a site that acts as a short city guide to newcomers. The site is targeted to young adults that might be looking for places off the beaten path, or spaces that are worth sharing. The sites creation was meant to be a solution to the lack of visually appealing digital guides that exist for new comers in Austin. One of the main objective was to highlight and describe a handful of places that are worth checking out around the city. The sites structure is set up so you can scan the home page for simple visuals of each location, and by clicking on the respective image you are taken to a dedicated page that provides more in depth information, such as hours and address.

A Travel App exploration

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project is a work in progress. I am currently working on designing a mobile app that allows travelers to meet and join others trips. The main objective of this project is to create a digital solution for travelers to communicate and meet while traveling. As a traveler, I frequently travel solo but am always looking for fellow travelers to share experiences with me. I saw this problem as an opportunity to create a product that would fill in a gap that exists in the market. I have started user research and some preliminary UX deliverables such as user flows, user personas and feature maps. I have been gathering UX research to inform my design decisions and will complete user interviews to make a preliminary round of wireframes. My main objective is to create an informed solution to the identified problem through the design of this product.
